✨ ABOUT ME…
My name is Claudia Smith, I am the owner of Doulala (KC) and I am so obsessed with birth and people. I love connecting with people. I pride myself that I can usually talk about anything and everything with anyone. Connection is important to me. And so is dessert. I love to bake and eat dessert, sweet over salty all day. But if I needed something salty it would be a big juicy burger, no tomato. When I'm not a home with my kids and husband or at a birth you can find me thrifting, crafting or watching Rom Coms or Harry Potter with friends. I was born and raised in Kansas City, I paid way to much for a Bachelors in Psychology and I volunteer at my church in the nursery because I get to have snacks and play on the floor.
In the past few years birth work has become my passion.
My first birth was intervention after intervention after intervention and ended kind of traumatically. My second birth was informed, I was prepared and while I consented to some interventions it was still the best birth. I loved it and recoveries were night and day. I wanted to help other moms feel the empowerment, positivity and excitement I felt during my second birth and remind them that they are actual badasses. In my journey as a birth worker I have grown to believe that birth is a life experience and doesn't have to be seen as a medical experience. I believe in the power of women's bodies and intuitions, and more than anything I want women to know they have options. I didn't know I had options during my first birth and I am still to this day left with a lot of "What if's". I am not for only medicated or only unmediated birth, I'm not for only home birth or only hospital birth. I am ALL for making sure you have all the information to make decisions that best follow your values, beliefs and desires. Birth should be empowering, birth should be exciting and like you are part of the process. My passion is to help you have that birth, a birth you deserve.
✨ I SPECIALIZE IN…
While professionally trained as a full spectrum doula and placenta encapsulation I find myself supporting a lot of first time moms. Moms who don't know anything about birth, who don't know they have options to choose from and choices to make in their pregnancies and birth, moms who want all ranges of support, physically, emotionally, informationally. Holding their hand through all the new experiences and details of their pregnancy and labor.
