SAMANTHA JONES
Birth and Postpartum Doula
"My initial fears of investment not leading to growth had been replaced with excitement and readiness to welcome new clients."
My personal journey is what led me to birthwork. My path to becoming a doula was not initially clear; it began as a fleeting thought of becoming a midwife after my third child's home birth. However, it was the traumatic experience of my fifth child's birth that propelled me into action. Determined to turn a negative experience into a positive one, I embarked on a mission to ensure no other woman felt as unsupported and alone as I did during my darkest moments.
After undergoing a year of therapy to heal from my traumatic birth experience, I explored doula training programs. Initially, I completed a DONA training course, which provided a basic understanding of a doula's role but left me craving more depth and guidance on building a business, creating packages, and developing a website. It was an email from Happy Home Birth that introduced me to the Birthworker Academy. After consideration and support from my husband, I decided to join.
Since joining the Birthworker Academy, I have found a renewed sense of confidence and purpose. The Birthworker Academy’s thorough approach to topics beyond the basics of doula work, such as supporting free births, caring for clients with larger bodies, and understanding homeopathy, has significantly prepared me to support births. The depth of training, particularly in areas like anatomy and the dynamics of the pelvis, has surpassed my initial training. The Birthworker Academy has truly equipped me with a stronger foundation to serve my clients better.
In just one month, I had completed half of the Birthworker Academy and was gearing up to tackle the Doulapreneur Method course. My initial fears of investment not leading to growth had been replaced with excitement and readiness to welcome new clients. The program not only deepened my doula knowledge but also sparked personal growth, allowing me to embrace social media as a tool for connecting with potential clients and sharing my passion for supportive and informed birth experiences.
Reflecting on my journey, I am grateful for the comprehensive education and support provided by the Birthworker Community. I emphasize the transformative power of the Birthworker Academy in turning my traumatic experience into a driving force for my doula career.
I now aim to steadily grow my client base and master the business aspects of being a doula. I am determined to continue learning and improving, especially in areas like social media engagement, to reach and support more women during their birthing journeys. My ultimate goal is to ensure that no woman feels alone or unsupported during birth.
