✨ ABOUT ME…
Becoming a Birthkeeper wasn’t a calculated career move for me. In fact, it wasn't even on my radar of things I wanted to do with my life. That all changed when I became pregnant with my first son. My husband and I decided we were going to do everything possible to prepare ourselves for our son’s birth. Despite taking numerous parenting and birth education classes (that were provided through Military resources), we found that they lacked the crucial knowledge we needed most: how to effectively advocate for ourselves and retain our autonomy and power and, most importantly, trusting in the natural and physiological birth process that God had intricately designed for women.
At 41 weeks pregnant, I was told I needed to have an induction simply because I went past my due date and was fear mongered into consenting. I went along with my doctor, not knowing what the true risks versus benefits were and not having a wise woman by my side to guide me in this scary moment. What followed was the worst day of my life. At birth, my son was born not breathing and a swarm of hospital staff flooded my room. Immediately, he was cut from his life support (the umbilical cord and placenta) without a word from the doctor or nurses and taken from my husband and me. When I saw him next (which was via FaceTime from my husband while he visited our son in the NICU), he was hooked up to so many wires and tubes, my heart shattered. If only I had possessed the understanding I have now, I could have maintained control throughout my birth experience and, even in the face of an unfortunate NICU stay, still held onto that control, potentially reducing the traumatic impact. Ultimately, this day was the catalyst for my journey into doula work and lactation consulting.
Drawing from my personal journey as a mother to three boys, I have firsthand experience with a range of birth scenarios – a traumatic hospital birth, an unmedicated hospital birth, and an empowering at-home water birth. These experiences have nurtured a profound belief in the innate power of our bodies to bring forth life. With each birth, my trust in my body deepened, allowing me to fully embrace the natural process. Birth, in its entirety, is a remarkable and transformative experience that flourishes when we wholeheartedly trust our bodies and embrace our unique birth visions.
My purpose is to guide you on your path, providing you with evidence based resources, and deepening your trust in your bodies ability to bring forth your baby without the interventions of medical care. Together, we will navigate the complexities of the healthcare system, empowering you to make informed decisions that resonate with your birth vision. Remember this, you are never alone in this journey.
✨ I SPECIALIZE IN…
Even though I am a Full-Spectrum Doula, I am called to the radical realm of Birthkeepers and guiding women through their pregnancy to bring forth a new life through the spiritual realm of birth and fostering a deep connection with their babe through a healthy breastfeeding relationship.
